FIRST BRICKS LAID ON AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN TWYFORD

Councillors from Winchester City and Twyford Parish Council visited our new development, Wickham Fields, in Twyford today (30/10/25), where ten of the 22 new homes under construction are of an affordable tenure, with these homes being built on behalf of Winchester City Council.

These ten new properties have been earmarked by the Council for those who already reside within the village or surrounding area, and mirror the design approach seen in the open market homes available within the site, five of which have already been reserved.

Planning Director, Chris Rees (pictured third from left), commented “we are very pleased to be building a variety of housing within Twyford, having worked closely with the National Park Authority, Twyford Parish Council and Winchester City Council New Homes Team to realise the delivery of Wickham Fields.  In time, I’m confident it will provide an excellent demonstration of how a range of housing tenures can be designed and delivered using the same high-quality materials and design ethos to create an exciting new community.”

Speaking on behalf of Twyford Parish Council, Cllr Chris Corcoran (far left), added “we are proud and delighted to see the start of these affordable houses in the centre of the village. Affordable housing is a central objective of the parish, to provide homes for local people who have deep roots in Twyford and would otherwise have to leave the village. We are particularly pleased to have secured this housing close to local amenities and as part of a mixed development. Our congratulations and thanks goes to all parties, including the landowners, the Wickham family, and of course, the people of Twyford who have supported the project.”

Leader of Winchester City Council Cllr Martin Tod (second left), added “It was great to meet the team from Alfred Homes and - together with Cllr Chris Corcoran from the Parish Council - lay the first brick for one of the new council homes that will be built at the site.  This is such a carefully thought through and planned development: it won't just be providing attractive and much needed new homes - market and council - but is also part of improving facilities and flood protection in the village.  The City Council is absolutely committed to providing 1,000 new council homes across the district by 2032 and this is the quality of development we want."
